Overview
Santee Education Complex is a comprehensive public high school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. We serve students in grades 9-12 from the surrounding South Los Angeles Community. Santee's mission is to guide students to achieve academically and develop good character so that they are productive citizens of society.
Teaching the arts
he Santee Music department is dedicated musical excellence, focusing on development of musical skill and knowledge. Students learn to hold an appreciation for all aspects of music, including performance, composition, as well as its historical and cultural heritage. As member of the music department students learn to play music representing a wide range of styles and time periods. As a member of the Colorguard, students will learn a variety of dance techniques covering different styles and will be trained to perfom with standard Colorguard Equipment.
Building Successful leaders
The Santee Band and Colorguard Program provides an opportunity for students to develop skills and discipline necessary for success in life beyond high school. It encourages self motivation, teamwork, individual commitment, and goal setting. The success of the group is centered on pride and strong self direction towards completing a task. By participating in the program, students learn to hold themselves to a high standard of excellence and integrity. Along with these life skills come long lasting friendships and traveling to perform in locations all over Southern California.
Supporting our school and community
The Santee Band and Colorguard program are essential parts to the Santee Education Complex school community. These programs play vital roles in our comprehensive high school by providing a wide range of opportunities to students to participate in extracurricular activities, regardless of background. The goal of the program is use music and art as a tool to support our students' academic goals and success by improving creativity, teamwork, and responsibility.
